1)DISCLAIMER:
Kimo's bar and Penthouse Lounge is NOT responsible for any LOST, STOLEN, OR DAMAGED personal property items or equipment of any kind in any circumstance. That means, Keep an eye on your stuff!

2) We get a lot of Emails from various folks so don't get mad if your Email gets lost in the chaos, please try again. We can't return everyone's Email and frankly, some bands just aren't going to get to play here. We don't mean to be mean, but if your band sucks or has no real potential of bringing in a crowd we just aren't going to book you. We also don't like rude Emails, these will severely limit your chances of getting booked as well.

3) Hey, so you got a show? Rad! Lets discuss some basic principles of playing a show here.

4) First off we have shows for two reasons here at Kimo's: we dig music and we want to promote the local music scene here in San Francisco and give great bands a place to strut their stuff. There is of course another reason and that is to help bring in folks to the bar and to buy drinks. If people buy drinks here we can pay our rent and continue to provide a comfortable and intimate venue with great sound and mood lighting to make bands sound and look great. Thats why we do it. You band is expected to bring at least 20 people to your show. If you can not do that then Kimo's is not for you.

5) So lets talk about getting people to show up for your show. Promote your shows people! If all the bands on the bill do their part to get as many people to come out as possible than all the bands get to play to a room full of people, their friends and fans and the friends and fans of the other bands too. There is absolutely no sense in dragging your equipment across town to play an empty room. You're wasting your time and energy and ours. Have your private practice sessions in your private practice space, not our bar. Don't count on the other bands to do the work for you either. If your band is dead weight we won't waste anybody's time by having you come back. Work for rock, it wont work for you. Like we stated before, We expect at least 20 people to show up for your band. Thats the bare minimum for playing here.

6) Fliers! We love fliers! Make one for your show and get us some copies. Email it to us and we will post it on the Myspace page, leave it as a comment so it's right there for everyone to see. Drop off a bunch at the bar and we will hang them up all over the place. Make hand bills and we stick em on the tables and even drop em off around town when we are out and about. And you should be doing the same.

7) It's the night of the show and it is time to rock! Load in is at 8 pm SHARP. Not 8:45 sharp. Don't show up after 9 dragging your equipment over people's toes and leaving it laying around. Load in is at 8 pm to avoid confusion and to keep things running smooth. So please, load in at 8 pm. Check in with our lovely door person and get stamped and present your guest lists at this time. One guest per band member. If you've got more than one roadie/merch person than they're going on your guest list.

8) Kimo's is a bar and this means that everyone who sets foot in the bar must be 21 or older and have a valid ID. This means the bands as well. If everyone in the band isn't at least 21 then you can't play here. Don't think that you'll just ignore this part and then show up and then give us the tired "I forgot my ID" routine. The owners aren't interested in risking losing their liquor license and thus their livelihood so that your band can play someplace other than your mom's basement. Don't blame us, blame the ABC. If you don't know what the ABC is, you obviously aren't old enough to play in a bar.

9) Space is limited here at Kimo's and we unfortunately don't have a separate room for band equipment. To make sure that your equipment is safe and that there is room for all your adoring fans to idolize you up close, keep your stuff stacked neatly and as compactly as possible on either side of the room. Don't leave your stuff laying out in the middle of the room where someone will trip over it or dump beer on it. This is for your own sake too, if you leave your sweet ass double neck SG, video camera, or amp laying in the middle of the room and some jerk ass pukes on it and then sets it on fire, don't say we didn't warn you.
LOAD IN TIME is BEFORE the club doors open. Usually before or around 8pm. NOT ten minutes before your set. If your not loaded in before this time, you will not play. Set times will be posted, emailed, and verbalized so if
don't follow those times it will eat into YOUR set NOT the next act's set time. LOAD OUT is NOT in the middle of the show. You do not get to take you gear down the stairs during show time.
Both Kimo's and your fans will appreciate it. Load out is at the end of the night.

10) Doors for shows are at 9 pm, only the bands are allowed upstairs before 9 pm so that everyone can get situated and set up. If they show up before 9 pm, friends, family, and fans can wait downstairs in our street level bar. Again this is to avoid confusion and to keep everything running nice and smooth. Relax, the show will start soon enough.

11) The first band goes on at 9:30 pm. Curfew for all shows here at Kimo's is 1 am on Friday and Saturday nights and midnight on all other nights. Be respectful of the other bands and don't go on late and don't take forever to set up and tear down. Sign autographs and boobs and what not after you've moved your gear offstage and neatly compiled it against the wall. There are other bands on the bill and they want to play too.

12) Don't use pyrotechnics, open flame, exploding nuns or other such mischief in the bar. The ceiling is low and everything and everyone is extremely flammable. Don't dump paint, stage blood, baby oil, jars full of centipedes, etc all over the place. We just shampooed the rugs and it really pisses us off to have to clean up your mess after we were cool enough to let you play. Don't be a jerk. Thank you.

13) The owners of Kimo's are kind enough to give bands pitchers of beer, but wait; If nobody is at the show and no one is buying drinks then there will be no free beer. If you want free beer, refer to paragraph 5, thats the one about getting people to come to your show. Read it again, we'll wait. Nothing would make the fun loving staff of Kimo's happier than to shower all the bands with free beer, but you have to earn it. As the bar makes money, it can afford to give out more beer, so lets all work together to get you drunk.

14) Getting paid. ALL MONEY FOR THE BANDS COMES FROM THE DOOR. Price for admittance is generally $5-8 on the weekdays and about the same to a little more on the weekends. The price will be agreed to in advance with the booker so talk to him and make sure its clear so the wrong price isn't getting put on the fliers. The booker takes 20% of the door with a minimum of $40. This $40 goes to pay the door person. The club pays the sound guy and security so don't worry about him, their pay doesn't come from the door. The remaining 80% gets divided up amongst the bands. Generally, money from the door gets divided evenly between the bands. If there are touring bands or if some bands feel that they should get a larger percentage than this must be agreed to in advance with the booker and the other bands. If everyone thinks it's fair than that's the way we'll do it.

15) Okay, that about does it. If there are any questions please feel free to ask our booker whatever you want to know. If you have any concerns please make sure to ask before hand so that any fears can be put to rest. Our bookers try to always be present at any shows they book so feel free to talk to him or her and say hi and maybe set something else up in the future.

Kimo's is proud of it's long history of rocking in San Francisco and we hope to keep doing it far into the future, so please be respectful of the club and our neighbors. We look forward to hearing from you.
